What is wrong with Hollywood...

Don’t get me wrong, I love Kevin Spacey, but we all know he’s too old to be playing Bobby Darin (Kevin is 45 and Bobby Darin died at age 37.) but casting Kate Bosworth (who is 21 y.o.) as Sandra Dee is adding insult to injury. There was only an 8 year age difference between Bobby and Sandra which is just a tad less than the 23 year age difference between Kevin and Kate.

And now…

Dennis Quaid (50) is going to be starring in a Spade Cooley biopic with Katie Holmes (25) playing his wife. I have no problem seeing older men with women in film or vice versa, but when you’re doing a biopic on someone, there needs to be some semblance of believeability. These men are literally old enough to be these girls’ fathers and it’s just not accurate.

in terms of accuracy i totally agree. in terms of Dennis Quaid, i'm 23 and i would happily marry him. have you seen those abs??? and that smile....

Plus, you'll have a good 10 years of abs before Dennis switches it up to crap myself/heart medication mode.

I remember this Bobby Darin biopic being discussed almost ten years ago, and people were saying that Kevin Spacey was too old even back then. But, he sang at the John Lennon tribute thing, and now there's no stopping him.

Hollywood star Kevin Spacey is considering quitting movie acting, to concentrate on his musical career. The Oscar winner, who plays fifties crooner Bobby Darin in the Beyond The Sea, is keen to return to his roots and concentrate on living the life of a singer-songwriter. The actor has already planned to tour with Beyond The Sea co-stars, The John Wilson Orchestra, in America. Spacey explains, "My background was on stage and in musicals so it's a case of going back to my roots. If this all goes well - the tour and the movie - I have a good mind to jack in all the acting things and just live the life of a singer-songwriter. Sounds good, right? Well, you'll just have to wait and see."

ah but see when Dennis reaches that age i will find a younger man on the side and all will be well, and with his money we can hire a nurse to do the dirty work.

I was at the John Lennon tribute thing and Kevin was quite a little show stopper but he's just way too old for the role.

I bought the Beyond the Sea album and he really has a lovely voice for that era's music.

Maybe Minnie Driver can open for him.

Darin was a multitalented individual driven to succeed in many genres because he knew his time on earth was limited. How many 20 year old actors do you think exist now that have all the talents ,maturity and experience to recreate this complex individual? I saw Kevin in concert in SF recently and he really has it all to portray Bobby as I remember him.I can't wait until the movie comes out!

i think Kevin is brilliant and honestly don't think anyone else could do the part. I just wish it had been done 10 years ago so it was slightly more accurate. i can't wait to see it.

My original post was more about the fact that casting an age appropriate Sandra Dee makes the age difference between Spacey and Darin more obvious. They should have cast someone older than Kate Bosworth for the role so as not to make the age difference between the two actors so glaringly obvious.
